Västerbottensost new black package design won both the jury and the peoples vote in tough competition for the Swedish Design Prize 2016 and ended up a winner for Identity-packaging.
Västerbottensost is one of Sweden’s most known and loved brands with a history since 1872. The new package design was introduced during autumn 2015 as part of the process of renewing the brands visual expression. In the new package design Västerbottensost unique brand values are clarified. The symbol W has it’s origin in the original brand symbol, which in the early 1900s was used to mark quality approved, prima Västerbottensost. In the new design, the Master Cheesemaker’s signature ensures high quality and craftsmanship and the black color symbolizes both premium as well as the mystique surrounding the cheese.
”Västerbottensost is a unique cheese with a long tradition and a fascinating history, but still highly relevant in food trends of today, where fine ingredients and origin is important. The new design is made to reflect Västerbottensost of today, a Nordic high quality food, highly appreciated both in Sweden and internationally for it’s taste. The packaging is an important part of how a brand is perceived and of course we are very happy for all the positive response and attention.” says Helena Ahlgren, Brand Manager Västerbottensost at Norrmejerier.
