A Paper Composite for Ready-Made Pizzas
Bio pizza inside, a paper+plastic composite on the outside: The French pizza producer Léa Nature opted for nature and sustainability also when realizing its packaging. This is why Wipak designed a special solution using processed paper both in the lid and in the bottom web.
This Packaging represents a Real Novelty
Product protection, shelf life, and easy opening – Wipak’s innovative paper composite offers the same properties as flexible plastic packages. The pizza is packaged under MAP conditions and can be processed by all commonly used packaging machines. “We have developed this packaging concept in cooperation with Léa Nature,” Wipak’s Bernard Petit explains.
Thanks to the combination with plastic, the pizza can be packaged in an inert-gas atmosphere and the packaging machines can be used without any loss of productivity. Easy opening of the package is no problem at all.
Successful Concept Carry-Over
“We wanted to carry the bio concept of our products across to the package,” emphasizes Barthélémy Lelore, Léa Nature’s product manager. He explains, “The paper composite expresses naturalness and sustainability. Our target was to be the first company offering such a solution to its customers. Wipak has been able to transfer the product philosophy to the package.”
The combined expertise of the Wipak sites in France, Finland, and Germany has been leveraged for this project, from design consulting to dummy-package manufacture, production, and printing. Petit says, “Léa Nature is an excellent example demonstrating how customers can benefit from the European package-design expertise of the Wipak Group.”
