Wipak UK Gives Students an Insight Into the World of Flexible Packaging

Wipak UK welcomed two groups of university students to its factory in Welshpool this month for two information-packed visits.

During the afternoon sessions, the students – who are currently studying various food-related programmes at Harper Adams University – received a presentation from the Wipak UK Management Team about the Company’s history, flexible films and food packaging, as well as some of the innovative and award-winning packaging solutions Wipak has produced in recent months. Students were then taken on a tour of the factory to learn more about flexible film conversion and to see the Company’s operational excellence system (OES) in action.

Andrew Newbold, Managing Director at Wipak UK, said: “As a company, Wipak takes its social responsibility very seriously and places great emphasis on engagement activities, such as the visits which took place earlier this month. We were happy to welcome the students on-site and were impressed with the industry-level discussions that took place. From an educational perspective, we hope to develop our relationship with the university, as well as the food industries it feeds into, in the months and years ahead.”

Karim Farag, Senior Lecturer in Meat Science at Harper Adams University, added: “It has been an enlightening experience for the students, who were not only able to see the brilliant facilities at Wipak UK, but link the theory they’ve learnt in-class with the operations taking place on the shop floor. It was both fascinating and encouraging to hear how Wipak addresses key issues such as sustainability, and to learn more about the Company’s vision for the future.”
