Double Success at the German Packaging Awards

feature

We are delighted to have been presented with not one, but two awards at the prestigious German Packaging Awards ceremony, which took place earlier this week at the Humboldt Box in Berlin.

It was our innovative, ClimateNeutral stand-up bag concept for Thuringia-based meat producer, MarKo, which scooped the top prize in the ‘Sustainability’ category. Having previously used metallized plastic packaging, MarKo wanted a more eco-friendly pack for its Salami Snacks. The Wipak team worked closely with MarKo to develop a paper-plastic composite pack, which utilized FSC®-certified paper, reduced global warming potential by 40%, and required approximately one third less energy in the manufacturing process*.

The second award of the day went to our groundbreaking ProDirect inkjet printing technology, which combines extremely high-quality digital printing with wide web, high performance paper laminate structures. Recognised in the ‘Packaging Machines’ category, it was this new technology that was used in the second phase of MarKo’s Salami Snacks project to further reduce product-related CO2 emissions.

Creative Manager, North at Wipak, Florian Constabel, collected the awards: “Having already received significant positive feedback from MarKo and its consumers, we are thrilled that this pack, and the technology that was used to enhance it, is also being recognised in the highly regarded German Packaging Awards.

“At Wipak, we place great emphasis not only on involving and inspiring our customers during the pack development process, but impressing them and their consumers with our ideas, innovations and technologies, which ensure products stand out on the shelf for all the right reasons.”
